Letter from the editor

The summer of 2009 will be known as the summer of the Monster Northern Pike as the front cover of this brochure shows. This 45+ inch Pike was caught and released by my son Ryan Hebel. Many of our guests told me on departure that this summer was the best fishing they have every experienced in their many trips to the Cobham River. Many also said they have gone to many other Lodge’s in past years but caught their biggest Pike of their life on the Cobham River last summer.

We flew into the Lodge on May 19th and were greeted by two weeks of cold and wet weather. As for the water level, it was the highest in the 35 years that I have been opening the camps and was within only a few feet of reaching the top of our beach before retreating. Many times on the Cobham River the higher the water the better the fishing which is what happened last summer. Our guests told me that many days they caught and released over 100 walleye per boat every day of their trip.

Before our guests arrived last summer, I had two new 2009 SSV 16 foot Lund Boats flown into the Lodge. With the addition of these boats I have now started to replace my older boats each year and will continue to upgrade them each year in the future. From the great comments from my guests last summer about the boats, I have no choice but to listen. Also last summer we began to power wash and stain the entire Lodge and deck and have brought the natural cedar grain back as it was 35 years ago when I built the Lodge. I plan on upgrading the camp on Hidden Lake as we have the Lodge next summer.

After returning to Iowa in early August, I moved back to Henderson, Nevada. After pushing snow in Iowa last winter I knew it would be nice to never own a shovel again. Please take note of my new mailing address, email address and phone number which have all been changed to reflect my move.

Thank you to all of our past guests for returning again in 2009 and as the bookings are showing, we will see you again in 2010. As for our new guests, I hope 2010 is the year you catch and release the largest Pike of your life.
